Where: Music Bowl - UCSB
When: Wednesday, April 15th, Noon
Multi-instrumentalists Peter Feldmann and David West will present a free noon program at UCSB's Music Bowl on April 15, 2015. Bluegrass and pre-bluegrass songs and tunes will be highlighted on combinations of guitars, banjos, and mandolins in a dynamic presentation on the roots of modern-day bluegrass music.
Equally at home with bluegrass and old-time music, Peter Feldmann has long been a musical mainstay in Southern California. He is the recepient of the 2008 “Music Legend Award” from the Topanga Banjo/Fiddle Association. His shows feature fiddle, guitar, banjo, and mandoln. Venues have included: The Ash Grove, UCLA Folk Festival, The Old Town School of Folk Music, The Troubadour, Nickel Creek, McCabes, San Diego Folk Festival, and The Red Dog Saloon, Virginia City, NV. Besides actively performing a wide variety of music, Peter is also known as a bluegrass historian, collector, music consultant, teacher, and producer, both of live concerts and radio/tv programs throughout the Southern California area. A favorite of fund raising efforts, Peter's music has also been heard in clubs, concerts, saloons, universities, pre-schools, at weddings, wakes, parties, barn-raisings, calf-ropings, rodeos, auctions, wine tastings, fashion shows, and chili cookoffs.
David West has produced over sixty albums as a staff producer for CMH Records in Los Angeles, and many more as a freelance producer through his Play Ball! Musical Services and Studio "Z" based in Santa Barbara, CA. A multi-instrumentalist, his playing has appeared on hundreds of albums, TV shows and commercials, plus many film sound tracks. His early career was spent on the road with the Cache Valley Drifters (founding member) and as an accompanist to songwriter Kate Wolf. The last fifteen years have been devoted primarily to being a studio musician. He still occasionally tours, backing up some of his favorite musicians, including Peter Lewis (Moby Grape), Chris Hillman (Byrds), California musician/musicologist Peter Feldmann and Nashville/California songwriter Kate Wallace.
