The Folk Music Revival
A pannel disscussion hosted by DK Wilgus

Tom Ashley
Clarence "Tom" Ashley w/ Doc Watson

A new folk festival was held in Monterey, California In May of 1963, a new folk festival opened its doors at the Monterey Fairgrounds in California. due to a burgeoning interest in folk and traditional musics. I went up to Monterey for the long weekend to cover the event for KGUD-FM, a Santa Barbara radio station. On a Saturday morning, professor DK Wilgus of UCLA organized a pannel discussion on the "revival" of interest in such music. An audio recording of this pannel is available from us (see bellow.) Participants included DK Wilgus, John Cohen, Roscoe Holcomb, Ralph Ribnzler, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, Clarence "Tom" Ashley, Mance Lipscomb, Billy Ray Lathum, and Clarence White.

In the meantime, here's an audio clip of Tom Ashley, discussing what he called "Lassie Makin'".
