Southern California Folk and Bluegrass empressario Peter Feldmann has invited some old friends from the music industry to join him in an intimate, all-acoustic concert of early country and bluegrass music. They'll be performing many old favorites, as well as some rare and little-heard songs by groups such as the original Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, The Blue Sky Boys, Uncle Dave Macon, Bill and Charlie Monroe, and many others.

Peter will be joined by Mayne Smith, a fine songwriter and singer from the Bay Area, who is an exciting performer on resophonic guitar, pedal steel, and rhythm guitar. The group will be joined by Gene Libbea, singer and bass player extraordinary with two Grammys to his credit, and Peter's long-time Very Lonesome Boys partner David West on harmony vocals, banjo, finger-picked guitar and mandolin.

The show will be staged as an informal jam and exchange of ideas between musicians from different areas of the state, in combinations the public has not heard before. "I greatly enjoy interacting with my musical friends in settings like this. With people like Gene and Mayne along, we'll be hearing some stories from real bluegrass history. I'm effectively bringing my living room to the Grange Hall to share the music, the tales, and surprises with an audience", notes Peter. More information on the players is listed below.

Multi-instrumentalist David West has produced over sixty albums as a staff producer for CMH Records in Los Angeles, and many more as a freelance producer through his Play Ball! Musical Services and Studio "Z," based in Santa Barbara, CA. His “Pickin’ On…” CD series, released worldwide by CMH, has sold nearly 4 million units. His playing has appeared on hundreds of CDs, TV shows and commercials, plus several film sound tracks. His early career was spent on the road with "neo-bluegrass" band Cache Valley Drifters (founding member) and as an accompanist to songwriter Kate Wolf.

Mayne Smith learned to sing in choirs and hootenannies in his early years, and was accompanying himself on guitar and banjo before he graduated from Berkeley High School. He was a founding member of the Redwood Canyon Ramblers, the first Bay Area bluegrass band, and studied folklore at Indiana University and UCLA. Performing in various contexts ranging from acoustic string bands to fully electric country and rock groups, Mayne plays rhythm on acoustic and electric six-string guitars, acoustic steel guitar (dobro), and electric pedal steel guitar. Most of his performing and three albums were produced collaboration with his longstanding partner, Mitch Greenhill. In 2008 Mayne released PLACES I’VE BEEN, a 20-song collection of his own compositions, assisted by fifteen friends in various combinations. At MayneSmith.com can be found lists of recordings, musical compositions, and a bibliography.

Gene Libbea's career in music began on the west coast in 1972 working for Walt Disney and later the New Christie Minstrels. In 1988 he joined the Nashville Bluegrass Band where he was a member for 12 years. During that time he notched five Grammy nominations and two Grammys. Simultaneously, he became an in demand session musician recording with Johnny Cash, Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs, Steve Earl, Ry Cooder and Clint Black just to name a few. Today he makes his home in the Southern California mountains and is in high demand as an accoustic bass player, guitar player, and record producer.

Peter Feldmann has long been a musical mainstay in Santa Barbara and Southern California. Besides actively performing bluegrass and old time music with a variety of groups, Peter is also known as a bluegrass historian, collector, music consultant, teacher, and producer, both of live concerts and radio/tv programs throughout the area. His music has been heard in clubs, concerts, saloons, universities, pre-schools, at weddings, wakes, parties, barn-raisings, calf-ropings, rodeos, auctions, fund raisers, wine tastings and chili cook offs.
